New AI chat apps show up faster than any parent can keep track of. Some are obviously for kids. Some are "companion" apps that talk like a best friend. Some just look like search. Almost none of them tell you, plainly, whether they're safe for a 13-year-old to use unsupervised.
So we built something to help: the AI Risk Scanner, live now and free for anyone to use at haloaware.com/ai-safety.
What it actually does
It's a public, searchable directory of the AI chat platforms young people use today, currently 30 platforms and growing, sorted into four types: Companion, Assistant, Study, and Search. Type in a chatbot name your child mentioned, or search by domain, and you'll find where it sits.
Every assessment we publish will be scored against a methodology we've made public, not a black box. Each one will be dated and evidence-cited, so you can see exactly what it's based on, and we'll keep them current as platforms change.
Where things stand today
We'd rather tell you straight than oversell it: we've just opened the scanner, and most of the 30 platforms are marked "not assessed yet" while we work through them properly. What's live right now is the tool, the method, and the list, not a full leaderboard. That's coming. We're not going to publish a verdict on Character.AI or Gemini until we've actually done the work behind it.
Don't see your child's app?
There's a "Request a platform" button right on the page. If your child uses something that's not on the list, tell us, it directly shapes what we assess next.
Why we're doing this in the open
This isn't part of the Halo Aware dashboard, and you don't need an account to use it. It's a standalone safety resource for any parent, whether or not you ever use our extension. Same principle as everything else we build: give you real information, not fear, and let you decide what's right for your family.
