For you, not your parents

What your parents can (and can't) see

If Halo Aware is on your computer, you deserve to know exactly what it does. This page is the full, honest answer. It's the same information we give your parents; nothing here is hidden from either of you.

What they can't see

  • Your actual conversations. There is no page anywhere that shows your parent a transcript. The words you type are analysed by a computer and then deleted; we don't keep them, so nobody can read them later, including us.
  • Anything outside AI chat sites. Your browsing history, your messages to friends, your social media, your searches: the extension can't see any of it. It only works on AI chat platforms, and it lists exactly which ones.
  • Your location. No GPS, no tracking, nothing like that.
  • Deleted or incognito history. We're not a spying tool and we don't try to be one.

What they can see

  • Topics, not words. Your parent sees something like "mostly homework and creative writing this week", never the messages themselves.
  • Patterns. Which AI tools you use, roughly when, and for how long.
  • Serious alerts. If a conversation looks like something genuinely serious, like someone talking about hurting themselves, or an adult behaving badly, your parent gets an alert with a two-or-three-line extract of that specific moment and a note about why it was flagged. That is the only time they ever see any of your words, and it's limited to those few lines.

You can always tell it's there

The extension shows up in your browser like any other extension; it is deliberately not hidden, and we tell parents they should talk to you about it rather than install it in secret. If it appeared without a conversation, you're allowed to start one. Honestly, we'd take your side on that.

Your rights

The data this creates is about you, which means the law gives yourights over it: you can ask us what's held, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain, to us through the support form or directly to your country's data regulator, including about being monitored at all. We answer everyone to the same standard and within the same 20 working days, wherever you are. The full detail is in our privacy policy, which is written in plain English on purpose.
